The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Mr. Inusah Fuseini, has visited the victims of the rain disaster in the constituency to see how best to assist them immediately.
Mr. Fuseini expressed shock and regret at the extent of damage the storm had caused to properties and appealed to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to as a matter of urgency to put in place contingency measures to accommodate the displaced persons.
"This is the worst rainstorm disaster I have seen in the history of the Metropolis. We must put politics aside and find means of helping the displaced people to integrate into society and reduce their plight," he said.
The rainstorm, second in two months, on Saturday night hit the Tamale Metropolis and its environs causing extensive damage to property worth billions of cedis and displacing more than 2,000 people.
About 70 per cent of all schools in the Metropolis had been affected while more than 60 per cent of electric poles had also fallen, with trees along the streets uprooted and has blocked the roads.
Mr. Fuseini accompanied by Alhaji Ibrahim Yussif Andani, constituency chairman and some party executives inspected the affected households at Sakasaka, Warrizagi, Chagni, "ADB" Area and Dakpefuo and assured the people of help from the Metropolitan Assembly and NADMO.
He said he would use his share of the District Assembly's Common Fund (DACF) to address some of the problems particularly the schools, to ensure that the children could go back to their schools when it reopened.
He appealed to the government, NGOs and corporate bodies to assist in accommodating the displaced persons.
