Hopes of an all-African final at the FIFA U-20 World Cup were dashed by Brazil after the South American giants hammered debutants Senegal 5-0 in the first semi-final game of the tournament at the Christchurch Stadium in Christchurch.
And in doing so, Brazil's under-20 football side have achieved what their senior side couldn't do at a World Cup last year - qualify for a final.
Andelinou Correa conceded an own goal after just five minutes and Marcos Guilherme doubled the advantage with his first of two goals just two minutes later.
Boschilia then made it three-nil on 19 minutes and Jorge added a fourth goal to put the game beyond the Malians on 35 minutes. Guilherme then added some gloss to the scoreline in the second half.
The young Lions of Teranga, unused to competition at this level, showed the Brazilians too much respect and were made to pay for their naivety, especially in a first half in which the Brazilians netted four goals.
Brazil, who are five-time champions of the tournament, will now take on the winner of the Mali-Serbia game in the final, while Senegal will play the loser in the third-place match.
