Telecommunication regulators from ECOWAS countries met in Accra to study Ghana’s successful implementation of the mobile number portability policy.
The delegation was in the country to study how Ghana has ensured the provision of quality services in the implementation of the mobile number portability policy.
Ghana is a global case study in Mobile Number Portability which was in 2011.
Ghana has the fasted porting times globally, a system that enables a consumer to switch between operators in less than 5 minutes.
Organized by the West African Telecommunications Regulators Association, in collaboration with the National Communications Authority (NCA), the workshop brought together telecommunication experts, regulators, stakeholders and operators from Togo, Benin, Liberia, Guinea, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
The study will help stakeholders in their quest to effectively implement similar policies in their respective countries, while ensuring the provision of quality services.
Top delegation from Porting Access Ghana led by the Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O), Saqib Nazir made a presentation on how the mobile portability operates. Also present was Mr. Ronald Vlasman, Chief Executive Officer of Porting Access B.V., Netherlands, parent company of Porting Access Ghana.

He said mobile number portability had come to offer choice to the consumers urging other countries in the sub-region to embrace the system.
In his address, the Executive Secretary of the West African Telecommunications Regulators Association, Mr El Maman Laminou, commended Ghana for championing the cause of implementing mobile number portability in ECOWAS.
