Ghana’s reggae music sensation Blakk Rasta has flown out of the country to Amsterdam to perform at the 2009 Face of Ghana Holland pageant grand finale.
Blakk Rasta’s show follows a recent performance he did at Holland’s biggest reggae festival. Although the show had for long, been the preserve of Western artistes, Blakk Rasta was signed to test for what the African reggae fraternity had to offer.
“The organizers defied a lot of criticism to sign me on, and I could never have been a disappointment,” Blakk Rasta said.
The latest show – with Stars of the Future star Jessica as MC – comes off at the ultra-modern Bijlmer Sports Hall, southeast Amsterdam, and will also feature local hip-hop star Asem as well as other performers from around the continent.
The winner of the pageant takes home €2,500 plus digital camera and a return air ticket to Ghana whilst the first runner-up picks €1800 and an HDTV flat panel television set. The third prize winner will receive €1000 and a laptop.
In an exclusive interview with Myjoyonline.com from his five-star hotel in Amsterdam, Blakk Rasta said he was more than “stage-ready” to thrill what is expected to be a milling crowd of fans billed to attend the show.
Blakk Rasta, famed for his hit track Barack Obama, will make two stage appearances and is billed to perform six songs.
“I will do first song - Abena - from the Voice of the African Rebel album,” he said.
Blakk Rasta will also perform Africa Sweet from his debut albumRasta Shrine which he released in 2000.
But the star’s latest project will means he is even soaring higher as he take up a contract for a Caribbean tour with Zed I’s band.
The two-week tour will take them to several places around the islands.
Meanwhile Blakk Rasta has hinted his he would be launching his latest album Voice of the African Rebel on January 1, 2009 at the Shining Beach, Nungua and January 2, 2009 at the Tamale Sports Stadium.
