The Association of Health Services Administrators, Ghana (AHSAG) has joined in the crusade to ensure that Ghana attains the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4, 5 and 6 by 2015. Speaking in an interview with the GNA in Accra on Thursday, Mr Bernard Kwasi Botwe, President, AHSAG, said members of the association had a role to play in achieving the goals of the MDGs. He said the Association's annual general meeting to be held in Ho on November 19 would feature achieving MDGs prominently. The meeting would be under the theme: "Towards the Attainment of the MDGs 4, 5 & 6 - The Role of Health Services Administrators." Some of the topics to be discussed include "An Overview of MDGs", "Maternal & Child Health", and "HIV and AIDS". The meeting forms part of the association's annual continuing professional education for its members to enhance their knowledge on topical issues. Mr Botwe noted that health services administrators in Ghana are professionally trained administrators whose job is to have an oversight responsibility for the day-to-day administration of health care delivery. Health Administrators also contribute to the effective financial management in the running of the health institutions and make sure that health care standards are met and that hospitals and health centres run efficiently and stay in business. Health Services Administrators in Ghana can be found in the public health institutions, private hospitals, non-governmental organizations and quasi-government institutions like the police and military hospitals. Their functions include planning and coordinating the divisional activities, programme monitoring and evaluation, development of policies and procedures for various activities relating to their Division as well as contributing to the development of overall health policies in the country.
