Narcotic is sinking image of Police – Dery

The Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bernard Dery, confesses that the image of the Service is no longer positive because of issues of narcotics plaguing it. The Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bernard Dery, has confessed that the sinking image of the Police Service in relation to narcotic issues has become a major concern for the Service. He therefore underscored the need for "proper self orientation" for personnel to correct the public image of the Service. DCOP Dery said this at a get-together organised by the Regional Command for 158 newly trained recruits and the media in Ho. He called on policemen to be mindful of the Service's statutory function of protecting life and property to ensure peace and security. DCOP Dery said: "You must know that the Police Service is not a holiday resort, but an institution for maintaining peace and security." He urged the recruits to exhibit high professional qualities wherever they found themselves to justify the huge investment the government had made in them, adding that promotion in the Police Service was on merits and hard work. ASP Asiedu Okantah, a Staff Instructor at the Regional Police Training School advised the recruits against excessive alcoholism, chain smoking and excessive sex, saying it affects their output.
