He supervised his team's gusty win against a tough Ukraine in the last-16 of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Auckland on Wednesday, now Senegal coach Joseph Koto has told his players that they should get to the final.
In scoring during regulation time, the young Lions became the first team to score against the Ukrainians in the competition. And then after it went past extra time still at 1-1, the west Africans went on to beat goalkeeper Bohdan Sarnavskyi three times out of three in the penalty shootout after extra time failed produced additional goals.
Momentum is with the Senegalese, who have recovered from an opening day 3-0 humbling by Portugal, to draw with Colombia and beat Qatar and Ukraine.
Up next for Koto's boys are the United States who beat Colombia 1-0 in the last-16.
"This was a very important victory for all Senegalese people." Koto said. "Thanks to the people in stadium tonight for their warm support here.
"We prepared seriously for this tournament, we did not come here to be only a part of it. We came here for results. After the group stage, we won't do any more calculations, we will take things from match after match.
"As the game went on, we saw the possibility to reach something. After the match, I told my team we have not reached our goal yet. This competition ends with the final. That's our goal."
