The Inspector General of Police, Mr Paul Tawiah Quaye, has cautioned police personnel to ensure that in the course of discharging their duties they do not go against the fundamental human rights of the people. "You must know that the general public expects the police to treat them with the highest sense of civility, respect their inherent dignity and their rights". He said this in an address read for him at the closing of a two-week capacity building course for 150 police personnel at the Central Regional Police Training School, Winneba. Participants were made up of 112 police men and 38 police women selected throughout the country. They were taken through topics including communication skills, English language, report writing, human rights protection, professional police ethics, community policing and confidence building strategies. The IGP urged police personnel to refrain from the use of inappropriate and illegal powers to harass, intimidate innocent people. The Commanding Officer of the Central Regional Police Training School, Deputy Superintendent of Police Samuel Asiedu Okanta expressed the hope that with the knowledge and skills participants would exhibit hard work and dedication to duties. Nii Ephraim, Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, donated 60 dinning hall benches to the Police Training School. Sgt. Richard Obeng Attobrah, the course prefect, on behalf of his colleagues thanked the IGP and organizers of course for the opportunity given them to improve their knowledge. Source: GNA
