The Chief Executive Officer of the erstwhile Ghana@50 Secretariat, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby, says he will ‘expose’ the hypocrisy of the Budget Officer at the Osu Castle. He said Mr Azu Sam Aziakor was not being entirely truthful when he submitted before the Presidential Commission probing the activities of the Ghana@50 Secretariat, that he Dr. Wereko-Borbby had no basis to demand some $216,000 as salary arrears. Dr Wereko-Brobby, also called Tarzan, told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah he would produce, and cause to be published a memo raised by Mr. Aziakor himself in which he stated that Dr Wereko-Brobby was going to be paid a working monthly salary of $5,000 during his stay at the secretariat. Tarzan told commissioners probing the activities of the celebration when he appeared on 15 October, 2009 that he had only been paid 50 per cent of his salary arrears with a start-up salary of $5,000 per month and that he expected the rest to be paid to him. But when the Budget Officer, Mr Aziakor, took his turn to give testimony, he told commissioners he could not vouch for the claims made by Dr. Wereko-Brobby and agreed with the Commission Chairman that there was no basis for the demand since an appointment letter stating the salary did not exist or at least could not be produced. He however confirmed paying some $75,000 as salary advance to Dr. Wereko-Brobby in May, 2008 at a time Dr. Wereko-Brobby's salary had not been determined. Reacting to the submission, Tarzan said “It is sad that people should seek to extricate themselves from their own actions.” He advised public servants to stand up for their actions regardless of who they are dealing with.
