Nduom launches Change agenda, jabs Mills

The presidential candidate for the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in Election 2008, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has launched what he calls the Agenda for Change Initiative. At a news conference Tuesday, Dr. Nduom said his agenda will be to bring transformation in all sectors of the economy. The former Public Sector Reform Minister said his Change agenda will focus on a series of media interactions on burning national issues. He added that his agenda would also seek to bring transformation in education, a new regime of industrialization, governance among others. Dr Nduom said President Mills has not lived up to his promise to build a better Ghana citing the current high cost of living in the country. He also described the Legislature as weak and overly-dependent on the Executive, a situation he said had the potential to breed corruption. The former minister has for years criticized Parliament and advocated for reforms in the law-making arm of government. The CPP flag-bearer campaigned on a platform of change in the last presidential election but that failed to translate into votes. Asked whether his Change agenda is a subtle way to remain in contention for 2012, Dr Nduom responded in the negative. “For some people yere sesamu may be a slogan; it may be a thing for election. I want to persist and be persistent in letting Ghanaians know that I didn’t just want to say yere sesamu just to get votes,” he said. “I meant real change; fundamental change, change that will transform our lives as a people. That’s why I will not stop.” “There are many many other things that I can do to gain the public’s attention,” he stressed. “I am being an advocate for the fishermen of this country and people don’t realize that I’m doing it because I finance the activities of many fishermen of this country.” “Politics or no politics, I must seek the wellbeing of the people and if at the right time politics comes up, we’ll do politics but at the right time.” Story by Elvis Adjetey and Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
