Mrs Emma Ocran, Legal Director of the National Insurance Commission (NIC) has said her institution would from next year be tough on defaulting owners of commercial buildings who flouted laws on insurance policies.
She said by legislation, it was compulsory for all commercial building owners to insure their properties or be liable for prosecution.
Mrs Ocran made the disclosure at an outreach programme on insurance and compensation fund for vehicle owners and driver in Hohoe.
She therefore called on such recalcitrant members of the public to correct the anomaly or face prosecution.
Mrs Ocran said inventory was being prepared and "my humble appeal to owners of commercial buildings is to conform to the law".
She called on members of the public to be wary of quack or mushrooming insurance firms whose modus operandi was to defraud clients, but cross check from NIC when in doubts.
Mrs Ocran said 40 accredited insurance firms have been licensed to operate in the country.
