The Tepa District Police have arrested 25-year-old Kwame Agyemang, for defiling a one-and-a-half-year-old baby.
He is being held in custody at Mankranso and would be arraigned as soon as investigations are completed.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Adu-Boahen, District Crime Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the offence was committed on Tuesday, October 13.
The victim's mother had gone to farm and left her in the care of the grandmother at Ahwerewam near Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano South District.
He said as the toddler played around, the suspect emerged from nowhere, picked her and sent her to a nearby bush where he sexually abused her under a palm tree.
The shrill cry of the victim drew the grandmother to the scene and caught Agyemang in the act.
She shouted for help, leading to the arrest of the suspect by neighbours who handed him over to the police.
