A blind teenager, Epilate, at Kwamang in the Sekyere Central District, and one Kwadwo Asamoah, have been arrested by the Asante-Mampong police for gang raping a 26-year old mentally retarded person with four others.
The four alleged accomplices, who are on the run, are Kwadwo Asiamah, 19, Yaw Duku, 16, Kwasi Ackom, 20, and Cudjo, also 20.
The Asante-Mampong Municipal Police Commander, Mr Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, told the Ghana News Agency that the six took turns to sexually assault the mentally retarded lady at about 2200 hours on September 27.
The victim was allegedly tricked by a 14-year-old Junior High School (JHS) pupil with an offer of a cell phone if she accompanied her to her house.
She fell for the bait and the girl led her straight into a room where the suspects had taken cover.
The gang grabbed and gagged her with a piece of cloth and raped her in turns.
Mr Oduro-Kwarteng said at a point the victim became tired and could no longer bear the ordeal and began screaming.
This attracted the attention of some people in the neighbourhood, who rushed to the room.
The four managed to escape through a window, however luck eluded Epilate and Asamoah who were arrested and handed over to the police.
Mr Oduro-Kwarteng said the JHS pupil was also arrested but could not be place in custody, due to her age, but was asked to report periodically to the police.
