It was interesting reading a rejoinder to an article I wrote, "When will GBC respect public and civil rules and regulations in Ghana" which was posted on Myjoyonline, from one Suala, who described himself as an ‘average worker of GBC’, but who appeared to have known so much about the running of the corporation in the Upper West Region. Suala will be one of the many hypocrites at the regional FM station and I will in due course expose his hypocrisy. As an average worker, he says since the takeover of the regional managership of the corporation by Chris Alalbila, revenue generation has increased and that the previous regional manager was virtually doing nothing. That in itself is an indication that a lot of things are wrong with the GBC in the region, given what is coming from the horse’s own mouth. Suala justified Mr. Chris Alalbila’s refusal to go on leave in his over a decade stay in the region, claiming the absence of a colleague worker accounted for the situation. But if Suala says he works with the GBC as he claims, it is my hope that on the October 5, 2009 he heard one of their directors, Alhaji Hamidu Chodi, confirm the concerns I raised earlier. I have chosen to write about the GBC in the region because, I see it as a property in which we all have a stake, and we cannot sit down and allow some few people to mismanage it at the expense of the majority. Let me recount how I got my information which pushed me to write and expose this dangerous precedent that has been set by Mr. Chris Alalbila in the region, and you will all bear with me that people like Suala who claims to be an ‘average worker’ are not doing any good to Mr. Alalbila himself. One day I got to the station to give out an announcement to be publicized. It was during lunch break so I decided to wait, and under the tree where I sat a young man was issuing out national health insurance cards to subscribers. While sitting there, my attention was drawn to a conversation among some of the workers at the station who were there also; sitting in public exposing and demonizing Mr. Chris Alalbila. Among them were some quite elderly people who I thought should have known better and realize that they were sitting in public as some of the information coming out from them is what I will call trade secrets. But these workers of the station did not care probably they were too frustrated to care. I sat there waiting, people came and left and the conversation dragged on. That was where I learnt with shock how Mr. Chris Alalbila had not been on leave for the past twenty something years. They accused him of one man show as he does not delegate roles to others who are equally competent at the station. They also said that they were initially forced into a compound house he rented for them, but for their resistance, they would have ended up the worse for it. For the twenty or so minutes I sat under the tree with them, the entire rot at the station was exposed to me very cheaply. They said a lot of unprintable things about this man. And so when I went back to transact business with them again on another occasion, and on the notice board I saw that all regional directors are to proceed on leave, I had to put up my write up. I personally don’t know Suala, but couldn’t he have been one of those people complaining and lamenting about the long stay of Mr. Alalbila in the region? What is he defending? That is a typical hypocrisy of the Ghanaian system. I will like to caution Mr. Alalbila that he should be careful about his own workers he supervises; the same people who are jumping to his defense are the same people who idle under trees and destroy him knowingly to the public. Suala should come off the bias and the hypocritical stands and say it as it. I blame the GBC for not fencing the regional station all these years and it is open to all manner of persons. At one extreme end, a mechanic has taken a portion of the land and he is operating as a way side mechanic. I can’t tell whether there is any kind of arrangement in place. Suala said local language is spoken at the station. Am a field officer criss-crossing the region, if Suala should trek about quarter of the region, he would realize the harm ‘plenty’ English language at the station is doing to the people, when agriculture and health is the bane of the people here. They can be assisted with more local language when the station is coming out with programs. But if you put local programs here and there, what are you doing? My last word is that Mr. Chris should be careful about his own people, for they give him away. Those who are saying Hosanna like Suala are the same people who are saying crucify him behind him. He should for Christ’s sake let the man know his stand and stop throwing dust in the eyes of the public. I finally rest my case for public judgment. Credit: George Bangbeu bangbeu@yahoo.com
