The MP for Mfantseman West, Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has donated a magnificent trophy to be competed for by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency in a football match on a regular basis.
However, the NDC failed to honour the first match, which should have been played last Sunday at Mankessim.
In the absence of the NDC, a match was arranged between supporters of the NPP at Saltpond and their Mankessim counterparts.
Saltpond defeated Mankessim by 2 goals to nil.
Presenting the trophy to the Captain of the Saltpond team, Mr. Asamoah Boateng, who is also the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, said the aim of the match was to foster unity between the two parties in the constituency.
The Minister said there was no need for members of the two parties "to be at the throat of each other because of politics".
He stressed his determination to promote dialogue with the leaders of the NDC in the area to see the need to bury the differences between them on the playing field.
Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman District Chief Executive (DCE), noted that the area would not develop if the people allowed politics to divide them.
"Political opponents are not enemies", he said and commended the MP for his efforts to unite the people. He appealed to the NDC to accept the gesture to foster unity between the two parties.
