Prof. Dr Daniel Buor, Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has appealed to workers to constantly upgrade themselves to enhance their knowledge base and become more efficient.
“This is the way forward for increased national productivity and wealth creation,” he said.
Prof Buor was addressing a day’s orientation course for over 65 junior staff of the College at the Wood Industries Training Centre (WITC) at Akyawkrom in the Ejisu-Juaben District.
He told the workers that the College would support its workers who would be prepared to pursue further studies.
He said they should not feel marginalized but see themselves as important partners in the development of the University and that without them the development circle would not be complete.
Prof Dr Buor spoke of the need for industrial harmony and said laid down procedures must be followed at all times.
He said there were plans to institute an award scheme to recognize and reward hard working employees of the College.
Mr Kofi Appiah Koranteng, Assistant Registrar, Human Resource Division of KNUST, urged them to resort to dialogue to redress grievances.
Madam Ama Konadu, a clerk at the Department of Communications Design, appealed to the university authorities to take another look at the promotion policy for secretarial staff, saying the insistence on further studies as condition for promotion was not the best.
