Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday warned that government would neither relent nor relapse in finding the killers of the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II.
Interacting with Dakpema Na Mohammed, Chief of Tamale, as part of a four-day tour of the Northern Region, the Vice President assured the Chiefs and people of Dagbon of the determination of President John Evans Atta Mills to find the perpetrators of the dastardly act and have them punished.
He said while government intended to be just and fair in dealing with the Dagbon crisis, it would nonetheless condone any acts of lawlessness such as the killing of the king.
"Somebody killed the king and must be found and punished," he stressed. He said any body arrested as having been complicit in the killing of the Ya- Na and his elders would be made to "face the full rigours of the law".
Vice President Mahama expressed satisfaction about the peace initiatives being implemented by Dakpema and assured him of government's support.
He said Dagombas should consider themselves as kinsmen and not as enemies along the lines of the two main gates that are known to rule the Kingdom in turns.
"It is the same blood whether you are an Abudu or an Andani," he said.
He said government would implement a youth-in-agriculture programme among other policies, aimed at reducing unemployment in the area and called for the support of the youth. Na Abdulai called for government support in funding the tuition cost of underprivileged students in the Tamale Metropolis.
