The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) has held a press soiree at the National Insurance Commission (NIC) premises to sensitize the media towards this year’s Insurance Awareness Month scheduled to start from 23rd September through to 17th October 2009.
Towards this end, a grand official launch of the Insurance Awareness Month will be held at the plush Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, in Accra on Monday September 28, 2009.
On Friday September 25, an interdenominational Thanksgiving Church Service will be held at the NIC offices in Accra.
The one-month long celebration is being organized by the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) to promote a sound insurance education in Ghana.
The theme for this year’s Awareness month is “Insurance – An Industry of Opportunity for National Development.
According to the programme line-up for this year’s event, there will be public lectures on Insurance, Health Walk, Float, Fun Games and a Dinner Dance to help participants wind down.
Speaking at the press soiree, the President-elect of GIA, Mr. Benjamin Acolatse, who doubles as the Managing Director of State Insurance Company (SIC) said, “We recognize the media as partners in educating the general public about the need to insure your life or property; and it is against this backdrop that we have invited you here today to brief you well in advance about the impending month-long Insurance Awareness activities”.
Mr. Gabriel Glover, Executive Secretary of GIA, on his part, thanked the media for attending the event and hoped that they will indeed partner the GIA to execute this all important annual Insurance Awareness event.
