A 50-year-old woman, Ama Bio is being held in prison custody for the murder of one Akwasi Donko, a settler-sand-and-stone winner at Amamom near Obuasi.
The deceased, 37-year-old was beaten to the state of unconsciousness in a mad frenzy way with clubs (huge sticks) and died shortly on admission at the Obuasi Government Hospital on September 10, 2009, the same day the incident took place.
The attack was in retaliation to an alleged biting of Ama Bio’s son Kwaku Nyarko by the deceased.
The deceased was attacked in the room of New Apostolic Church’s Pastor at Amamom where he sought refuge after his assailants pursued him energetically.
Donko, who is popularly known in the community as "Onimoyamfour" died whilst he was clad in an NPP T-shirt and his body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), waiting for autopsy.
Ama Bio, the accused person, who is being held for abatement of murder, contrary to section 20(1) and 46 of Act 29/60 as amended by Act 554, is said to have led four of her sons together with other persons to attack the deceased leading to his untimely death.
Kwaku Nyarko, Kwabena Twum, Gabriel, Yaw Boateng, Kwabena Philip alias abodam, Nana Yesu, Kofi Adjei and Koo Emma, all accused persons who allegedly beat to death the sand winner are currently on the run whilst efforts are being made to apprehend them.
But the 50-year-old farmer, who has been charged with aiding and abatement of murder, on Thursday, appeared before a Circuit Court in Obuasi that remanded her to re-appear on September 29 without taking her plea.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mohammed Agumah informed the court presided over by His Worship Gilbert Ayisi Addo that the eight young men armed with clubs, on September 10, 2009 began pursuing the deceased to attack him because he had allegedly bitten off Kwaku Nyarko.
According to him, Donko, for fear of danger, ran into the room of Yaw Gyamfi, a Pastor of New Apostolic Church at Amamom, to seek for refuge, but was seen entering by Ama Bio, who followed up to the room.
Shortly, prosecution said Ama Bio came out with shouts that the deceased had stabbed her with a machete, and the other accused persons, who had arrived in the house, were led to the room and attacked Donko with clubs till he became unconscious and fell.
Soon thereof, the accused persons abandoned him and dashed out of the room, Chief Agumah narrated further and added that the Pastor, who is the complainant, made a report to the police in Obuasi.
He said the law enforcement officers led by Detective Inspector Yeboah rushed to the scene and met the deceased in the critical condition.
The deceased was taken to Obuasi Government Hospital where he was admitted for treatment, but died the same day at about 8:25 am, prosecution indicated.
All the eight men have presently gone into hiding and efforts are being made to arrest them for investigations, he added.
