Unity flag receives poor reception in Tamale

The "One Ghana Unity Flag Parade", received poor reception when it arrived at the Tamale Jubilee Park, in the Northern Region on Monday. The GNA observed that only some government officials, personnel of the security services and a few members of the public witnessed the ceremony and signed on the flag. The parade formed part of activities planned to mark the centenary celebrations of the birth of Osageyfo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first President of the republic of Ghana. The flag, which was expected to go round all the regional capitals, has already been sent to Wa, the Upper West Regional capital, as its first point of call and also passed through Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional capital. Mr. Stephen Sumani Nayina, Northern Regional Minister, who received the flag, explained that the poor reception was due to poor publicity given to it by the organisers. The Minister urged the organisers to intensify education on the event to avoid similar response in other regions. Mr Nayina said the flag was a symbol of unity for Ghanaians and it was important for the people to rally around it as a demonstration of their commitment to the nation. Mr. Nayina said the people of the Northern Region recognised the life and works of Dr. Nkrumah and were happy to be associated with the celebration of his life and achievements. Source: GNA/Ghana
