A Security personnel in Bawku has been accused of deliberately gunning down a man in the heat of last Sunday’s clashes between Mamprusis and Kussasis.
Adam Kobilla, a former District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation was killed, in what Regional Minister Mark Wayongo attributed to a stray bullet from one of the security personnel.
He said the security in an attempt to ward off reprisal attacks fired warning shots, one of which accidentally hit the deceased.
But children of Adam Kobilla say their father was shot on target, after an explicit order from one of the military personnel.
Rafiq Adam Kobilla, one of the children, told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoe his father was shot on purpose, accusing one of the officers, he only named as Captain Frank as being responsible for giving the command.
According to him, his father was shot as he attempted to help an old lady who was fleeing from reports of gun shots.
A subsequent statement signed by Kobilla said; “We consider this an extra judicial killing and a denial and naked abuse of the fundamental human rights of our father.
“This action of the military is to say the least absurd, unprofessional and a naked betrayal of the social contract between our late father and the state of the republic of Ghana.”
The statement further appealed to the “President, John Evans Atta Mills, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the entire national security apparatus to investigate the circumstances of our father’s death and bring justice to bear on the perpetrator of this heinous and unprofessional action.”
