Kenyan Chief Judge to visit Ghana

Mr. Justice Johnson Evan Gicheru, Chief Justice of Kenya would pay a familiarization visit to Ghana from September 6 to 13. He would be accompanied by Mr. Justice Alnasir Visram, a Judge at Kenya’s Court of Appeal. A statement signed by Mrs. G.A. Tagoe, Director of Communications, Judicial Service, said the two are visiting at the invitation of Mrs. Justice Georgina Wood, Chief Justice. They would draw lessons on the operations of the Ghana Judicial Service Training Institute as well as share ideas on matters of common concern. “Their itinerary will include visits to the specialised courts i.e. Commercial, Human Rights, Land and Financial Administrative Courts. They will also visit the Family and Juvenile Courts.” According to the statement, the Kenyan Chief Justice would interact with Supreme and Appeal Court Judges and also engage the Director of Ghana School of Law. “Justice Gicheru would visit places of interest including the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Akosombo Hydroelectric Dam, Cape Coast Castle and Kakum Park…” Mr Gicheru was appointed a High Court Judge in 1982. He was appointed a Judge of the Appeal Court in 1988 and served until 2003, when he was appointed the Chief Justice of Kenya. Source: GNA
