Derek Boateng called up

Getafe midfielder Derek Boateng has been added to the Ghana team ahead of Sunday’s 2010 joint Nations Cup and World Cup qualifier against Sudan. Derek steps in as Black Stars striker Prince Tagoe is excused from the team as he resolves pertinent matters with club side, TSG Hoffenheim in his bid to have his player’s license restored. The Getafe player took part in Thursday morning’s training. Derek’s last playing time with the senior national team was in 2007 when he featured in a friendly against Brazil. He missed the chance to play a part in Ghana’s 2010 World Cup double-header in June due to a shoulder injury picked up while playing for former club, FC Koln in the Bundesliga. Ghana sit top of Group D, five points clear of the second-placed team in the qualifiers and are seeking to reach a second successive World Cup finals. Ghana team Goalkeepers: Richard Kingson (Wigan Athletic, England), George Owu (Al Masry, Egypt) William Amamoo (Vaasaland, Sweden) Defenders: John Paintsil (Fulham, England), Samuel Inkoom (Basel FC, Switzerland), Harrison Afful (Asante Kotoko, Ghana), John Mensah (Lyon, France), Eric Addo (Roda JC, Holland) Isaac Vorsah (Hoffenheim, Germany) Midfielders: Stephen Appiah (Unattached), Michael Essien (Chelsea, England), Anthony Annan (Rosenborg, Norway), Sulley Muntari (Inter Milan, Italy), Laryea Kingston, (Hearts, Scotland) Opoku Agyemang (Al Sadd, Qatar), Haminu Draman (Locomotive Moscow, Russia) Strikers: Asamoah Gyan (Rennes, France), Matthew Amoah (NAC Breda, Holland), Derek Boateng (Getafe, Spain) and Junior Agogo (Apollon Limassol, Cyprus) Source: Ghanafa.org
