A 24-year-old pistol-wielding man in the Bawku municipality has been arrested by the police.
Awudu Fatawu was arrested upon a tip-off by residents who spotted him on a motor bike with a locally manufactured pistol.
Chief Superintendent Kwaku Boadu Peprah, Divisional Police Commander for Bawku, confirmed the arrest to Joy News, Thursday morning.
He said Fatawu had just arrived from Kumasi and picked the bike to go to his village, but community police arrested him when the gun was found on him.
Meanwhile the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, says he has instructed that investigations be conducted into reports of guerrilla training in parts of the region.
He said even though the security agencies have no cue about the training camps, they were leaving nothing to chance.
“They are going to work around the clock and I will make sure I pursue them for the feedback,” he emphasised.
Information available to Joy News say the Upper East Regional Police Commander, ACP Bright Oduro is in Accra Thursday morning to consult with the Inspector General of Police, Mr Paul Quaye and the Director of Police Operations, Patrick Timbilla, on the worrying reports of guerilla training in the troubled region.
Discussions are expected to centre on strategies to locate the training camp if it indeed exists.
