A management consultant is advocating relationship-centredness as a basic approach to improving productivity at the workplace. Dr. Augustine Ankomah, who is also the CEO of international consultancy firm PMI First Consult, said employers must establish effective employer-employee communication if they want to record high productivity. “But there are requirements for achieving this; and the greatest is the need for you to understand yourself and those around you – those above and below you, as well as your peers, customers and suppliers. By doing this, you can easily and intensely connect with them to solve problems at hand,” he added. Dr Ankomah also stressed that organisations, no matter their focus and size, must employ ICT to be able to meet the demand of the global business environment today. He was speaking at the launch of the Ghanaian subsidiary of PMI First Consult in Accra. “Today, the work place is very different; the workplace seems to be in a flux. Technology has brought tremendous changes. Presently, an email detailing work required can hit an inbox minutes before end of day and employees are expected to deliver. If you have international affiliates, the mails may even come home at night! The pace at the workplace is quicker. The ability to survive and thrive is directly linked to the degree with which employees and management communicate effectively with one another,” he said. “Your organizations have a varied combination of employees; and one of the most difficult things at the workplace is for employees and Managers to learn to accept that others are different.” Dr Ankomah announced what he said is a new strategy that has proven to be a most effective way of addressing critical organizational challenges in the corporate world. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) is a personality assessment tool employed by the crème de la crème of the corporate world in many developed and increasingly developing countries to enhance productivity and efficiency. The consultant said the assessment tool has been the framework of most business success stories and urged corporate Ghana to embrace it to ensure effective teamwork at the workplace.
