Ohene Ntow clashes with Accra police boss

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow appears to be on a collision course with Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Rose Atinga Bio over the recent Agbogbloshie conflict that has claimed three deaths. Nana Ohene Ntow is demanding that DCOP Bio retract and apologize to him for insinuating that he (Ntow) had a hand in the Konkomba market clashes. The regional commander had hinted on Adom FM that the General Secretary might be compelled to assist the police in their investigations into the bloody clash. DCOP Bio alluded during an interview with Adom News that Nana Ohene Ntow has been claiming on various radio stations that the clash had political undertones. She said by imputing political motives in such a sensitive conflict, Nana Ohene Ntow would have to share any information he has on the clash with the police. However, in a sharp rebuttal, Nana Ohene Ntow described DCOP Bio’s suggestion as regrettable and irresponsible, adding that a police officer of her calibre should not draw conclusions without evidence, especially in such a conflict situation. He dared the police to approach him for the so-called assistance. For him the attitude of the police is hypocritical especially when the security service failed to give protection to some residents who had appealed to them for protection. Ohene Ntow said the police should be responsible enough to admit their mistakes. Meanwhile, calm is said to have returned to the sprawling community while the police have intensified their patrols to prevent any more clashes. A member of the National Peace Council, Prof. Sowatey told Adom FM that the council was to be meeting with parties in the conflict to begin discussions aimed at finding a lasting solution to the conflict. He was unhappy that such a matter had been allowed to fester into a “chronic disease”. It is the third time the factions have clashed since the beginning of the year. Story by Afia Pokuaa/Adom FM
