A staff of Eurofoods Ghana, a biscuit manufacturing company at Spintex, a suburb of Accra is alleging that some of their products on the market are unwholesome.
The company came into the lime light three years ago when investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas revealed how it produces biscuits with “maggot-infested flour” under unhygienic conditions.
In the latest development, the complainant, Aikins Anthony Agala says the flour used in the production of the biscuit is mixed with the wrapper which contains chemicals dangerous to human health.
The flour is also mixed with blood from workers who get injured in the course of production because they are not provided with gloves and other protective clothes, he claims.
“Most of the biscuits we produce there are contaminated. Ever since I have been employed in this company, I have seen it all the time,” he told Joy News’ Elvis Adjetey.
Mr. Agala who visited the offices of Joy FM with samples of the biscuits which had the wrappers said he is quitting the job due to how he was maltreated when he demanded his allowances last Friday.
He said the rights of workers in the company have for long been abused by top management who are mostly Lebanese.
“It’s nothing to talk about when it comes to human rights violations; it’s nothing to talk about when you come to that company. There is a particular guy up there…he can just take up his legs bat up people, say all kinds of things,” he said.
Meanwhile management of Eurofoods Ghana has denied the allegations. Managing Director Adullah Abdullah said the company has a quality control unit to ensure that all products meet required standards.
“I know that my quality is very high quality, very clean quality, very protective quality,” he stressed. He said his competitors might be behind these claims to tarnish the company’s reputation.
