The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Fred Deegbe has described as “unacceptable and regrettable,” reports about some pastors indecently fondling their female flock.
He told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah that it was unfortunate that people posing as pastors were taking undue advantage of vulnerable and gullible members of the society.
Rev. Deegbe’s remarks come in the wake of several reports about indecent behavior by some pastors.
Describing some of pastors as charlatans, Rev. Deegbe said God does not solve people’s problems by violating their privacy.
He cautioned Christians against submitting themselves to such violation in the name of religion because “being a Christian does not mean your brain should be disengaged.”
“God has no grandchildren, what that means is that everyone can pray to God and God can answer your prayer. Sure you do need people who can stand alongside you and pray with but don’t let people take advantage of you and do things that do not even make sense to you, ” he stated.
Contributing to the discussion, Joy FM’s News Editor, Matilda Asante Asiedu, said the gullibility and laziness of some Christians was to blame for the worrying situation.
“Can somebody show me where in the Bible Jesus healed somebody or some prophet healed somebody by washing their genitals or giving them a bath? I think Christians have just become lazy and that has made them very lazy,” she said.
She bemoaned the practice where some Christians do not read the Bible but instead rely on pastors.
“I think that God gave us intellect and wisdom not so we can just go and listen to preaching and come back and sleep or buy anything any preacher tells us, we also have a responsibility (to read on our own). Why do you have a Bible in the first place,?” Tilly asked.
