Government has directed Delta Airlines to, as a matter of urgency, improve its service on the Accra – New York route.
The directive follows complaints by patrons of the airline of alleged poor quality of services rendered by Delta.
Some Ghanaian passengers have been complaining about the services of the airlines over the last couple of weeks.
Transport Minister Mike Hammah tells Joy News government is also not happy about the way Ghanaians are treated on the flight.
He said the situation is largely due to the fact that the airline is the only one running on that route.
“Because they [were] enjoying monopoly on that route it’s like they can do anything and get away with it; so that’s it. We are not happy and we have to call them to order,” he said.
Mr Hammah said government is looking at opening up the route to more airlines to facilitate competition.
“What we need to do is to engender competition on that route and competition will increase and eventually it will lead to more competitive pricing,” he emphasized.
However officials of the airline say they acknowledge government’s concerns and will respond at the appropriate time.
