The Police administration says the ban on the use of motorbikes after 8pm does not extend to the three northern regions.
The explanation follows complaints by residents that such a ban will seriously affect movement and business because motorbikes are the major means of transport up north.
Director of Police Operations, DCOP John Kudalor told Joy News on Friday the directive is restricted to Accra, Tema and Kumasi where criminals use bikes to rob people at night.
He however hints that the police would carry out their regular duty of checking crime and that any person suspected of any crime would not be spared interrogation.
DCOP Kudalor said the police would not strictly enforce the ban in the north as it would do in the major cities in the country.
The motorbike is the main mode of transport for most parts of northern Ghana.
