The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponua, Mr. Isaac Asiamah, has become the latest legislator to fall victim to the heinous activities of robbers, after his residence was ransacked by some unidentified men Tuesday night.
The Daily Guide newspaper reported Thursday that Mr. Asiamah arrived from a tour of his constituency in the Ashanti Region to discover, to his utter dismay, that his Lashibi Community 8 apartment had been totally vandalised.
Personal belongings such as a television, two laptops, sets of furniture, and other valuable items had all been taken away by the unidentified people, who were suspected to have embarked on the operation last Sunday night.
Mr. Asiamah called on the government to beef up security for MPs and all citizens in the country.
He said he had made an official complaint to the police, and was awaiting investigations into the incident.
Mr. Asiamah's ordeal follows a similar one which occurred on April 17 this year, when four armed men stormed the East Legon residence of the Kwadaso MP, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, while he was watching television with his family.
He was robbed of valuable property before speeding away with a vehicle belonging to his visitor.
The incident raised a lot of questions about the personal security of MPs, compelling the Speaker of the House, Mrs. Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo, to direct the leadership of Parliament to deliberate on safety measures for its members.
