A 33-year-old self-styled gynaecologist who allegedly duped his female clients of various sums of money after having sex with them, is in the grips of the Dansoman Police.
Michael Boafo, who on other occasions allegedly posed as a police officer and duped some taxi drivers was arrested upon a tip-off by a victim - a taxi driver - while having lunch at a restaurant opposite the Dansoman Police Station, with one of his female clients.
The Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Alex Yartey- Tawiah, who disclosed this to Spectator, said the police had within the first quarter of this year received complaints from taxi drivers that someone had been posing as a police detective from the Dansoman police and defrauding them of various sums of money.
Supt. Tawiah said, the police trailed the suspect and on Wednesday, August 8, a witness (taxi driver) rushed to the Dansoman Police station and informed the officers of the presence of the suspect with a lady at a restaurant.
It came to light during interrogation that at 3p.m. on July 30, this year, the suspect took the taxi driver from Asoredanho, a suburb of Accra to Odorkor Police barracks. He described himself as a police detective at the Dansoman police who resided at the Odorkor Police barracks.
The suspect afterwards collected GH¢30 from the driver and asked him to wait at the barracks to enable him to take his bath for them to continue with their rounds but he never showed up. The suspicious taxi driver raised an alarm but to no avail.
It was at the restaurant on August 7 that the driver spotted the suspect in front of the Dansoman police station and caused his arrest.
Catherine Ama Gyasi, another victim, (a secretary at a nursery school at Osu) upon hearing of a news story about the arrest of the suspect on an Accra FM station, went to the station and reported that sometime in 2007, she was at her office when the suspect came there to enquire about their school since he wanted admission for a nephew who was returning from London.
The suspect later told the victim that, he needed two people to add to a list of prospective travellers to the United States of America. The victim volunteered and .convinced her brother to also join.
Suspect through various guises including proposals to marry the victim ended up having sex with her on various occasions and duping her of moneys totalling GH¢1400.
Supt. Yartey Tawiah said the secretary on one occasion told the suspect to come and see her family members for the marriage rites to be performed, but the idea did not go well with the suspect who left and was not seen again until his arrest.
On another occasion, a female teacher at Osunase Presby in the Eastern Region, who was also a victim said she was in the classroom teaching when the suspect approached her and asked of a student whom she did not know. She said the suspect took her phone number and called her from Accra introducing himself as a gynaecologist.
Suspect called her later and told her he was on leave and had decided to spend the leave days with her at Osunase but she initially declined. Hours after the conversation she had another call from the suspect who said he was in a vehicle heading towards Osunase and that, she should meet him at the Osunase lorry station on his arrival. The victim met him and took him to her apartment were he spent a week.
According to the victim, suspect after returning to Accra kept visiting her frequently and had sex with her on every visit, promising to marry her.
Supt. Tawiah said during one of his visits to the victim, a friend of hers complained of abdominal pains and suspect on hearing this told victim to bring the friend to the house for treatment.
Suspect later demanded GH¢ 150 to consult another gynaecologist in Accra since the condition was a bit crucial, but he never returned.
When the news story on suspect was aired on radio, it alerted another victim, a taxi-driver who suspect had duped of GH¢40 and immediately rushed to the Police.
Victim told the police that sometime in July last year, the suspect took him from Mataheko to Ministries Police Station and told him, he was a police officer at Dansoman Police but wanted to collect an item from the station.
Suspect asked the victim to park at the entrance of the police station, took GH¢40 from him to be given to another officer at the Ministries police. The taxi driver waited for five hours but realised that the suspect was not returning and therefore left.
Supt. Tawiah said on Monday August 10, another victim, Norenda Nyame (unempIoyed) came to the station and claimed she met the suspect at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Tip-Toe Lane, who promised securing her a job after introducing himself as a gynaecologist. He allegedly exchanged pleasantries with the lady and took her phone number.
Some few days later, the suspect invited the lady to meet him at Makessim in the Central Region, were he promised giving her GH¢500. Suspect took the lady to a restaurant and footed the bills for the meals and drinks they took.
Supt. Tawiah said the lady had a phone call from a male friend which made suspect angry and after she had finished talking snatched the phone from her. Suspect started accusing the lady of talking to a male while with him. He insulted and harassed her publicly.
The lady then went to the station to pick an Accra bound vehicle after realising that suspect could not offer any help.
While she was in the vehicle waiting for other passengers, she took GH¢50 from her bag to buy credit to recharge her phone but suspect who was following up accused her of stealing money from his pocket but the lady did not answer him and the bus took off from the station leaving the suspect behind.
Supt. Tawiah said the suspect after leaving the lady at the lorry station, rushed to the Saltpond Police and lodged a complaint that a lady who had visited him had stolen his GH¢3000 and was in a vehicle heading to Accra.
The police chased, arrested the lady and later detained her with the Saltpond police over night.
Suspect never went back to the police station again after causing the arrest of the lady.
