Holders Asante Kotoko continued their rise on the log after an early season slump with a 1-0 win over Liberty Professionals on Sunday.

Striker Ahmed Toure brought to the fore his predating instincts as a Jackson Owusu pass set him in between Liberty’s centre-backs before rightly picking his spot at far post for the only goal of the game as early as the 5th minute.

Stat: The goal was Toure’s fifth of the campaign.

And it was enough to hand the porcupine warriors’ their first home win since against Inter Allies on January 29.

Asante Kotoko thus move up the ladder to fifth position with 19 points – six adrift leaders AshantiGold who suffered defeat to struggling B.A United in Sunyani.

Stat: Former Liberty attacker Selorm Geraldo struck in the 50th minute to hand AshGold their third defeat so far this season.

They remain on 25 points.

Aduana closed in on AshGold as they laboured to overturn an early goal by Samuel Kyere to win 2-1 over Berekum Chelsea at the Dormaa Park.

Stat: Kyere’s opening goal turns out to be the first conceded by Aduana after 477 minutes of six homes games this season.

They had recorded 1-0 wins in five preceding games at home. Richard Arhin bagged a brace in the 53rd and 61st minutes to hand the Dormaa side full points.

Osman Sackey’s 2nd minute goal was enough for Heart of Lions to post a 1-0 win over Medeama SC at the Kpando Park.

Stat: The win ties Lions with Aduana on 22points but the former have a better goal advantage and take the 2nd position.

A thrilling encounter ensued at the Tema Stadium in coach Herbert Addo’s return with Hearts of Oak to face an Inter Allies side he helped survive relegation last season. Addo and his Phobian side fell to a screamer of a finish by substitute Gockel Ahortor in added time to lose 1-2 to Inter Allies.

Ahortor had come on for Sherrif Deo Mohammed, who had been well marked by the Hearts of Oak defence. In the 66th minute, 17-year-old Ropapa Mensah capitalized on a defensive mix up between Philip Boampong and Tetteh Luggard to score the game’s opening goal.

Isaac Oduro equalized seven minutes from time through a well taken free-kick, before Ahortor spotted Luggard off his line and fired home a dramatic winner for the hosts.

Stat: Inter Allies now lie 4th on 20 points with Hearts slipping into relegation zone on 15 points.

Hasaacas returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over West Africa Football Academy in Sekondi. Zakaria Mumuni opened the scores to put the visitors up after 24 minutes, before Ibrahim Suleman levelled for Hasaacas 12 minutes later.

Defender Daniel Egyin converted a penalty to put Hasaacas 2-1 up a minute to half time and Frederick Quayson’s 59th minute goal secured all three points for the hosts.

Two second half goals by midfielder Nasir Lamine and in-form striker Fuseini Nuhu helped New Edubiase United defeat Bechem United at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday. Lamine opened the scoring in the 52nd minute before Fuseini added the second 15 minutes later.

Great Olympics defeated Wa All Stars 1-0 through a 58th minute headed goal by Doetse Agbashie on Saturday.
