The Nigerian Independent Electoral Commission (INEC)'s official website has been hacked, myjoyonline can confirm.
A group calling itself "team Nigerian Cyber Army" has claimed credit for the online attack.
Openly taunting administrators of the website, the hackers replaced content on the website with a single page declaring their successful attack and stating, "FEEL SOME SHAME ADMIN".
The hackers also warned that "WE GAT ACCESS TO OTHER HIGH RANKING NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT SERVERS BUT WE ARE NOT HERE FOR THAT TODAY!"
The security intrusion comes on the day of Nigeria's General Elections, which has already faced some hitches.
Voters have complained of complications with the biometric verification systems being utilised in the elections, with incumbent Goodluck Jonathan himself having difficulty in verifying his biometric data this morning
Reports this morning also suggest that there has been a bomb blast at a polling station in Enugu state, in south-eastern Nigeria.
Today's contest is a keen one between the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) and Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
