The Police Criminal and Investigations Department (CID) has mounted a search for the coach of the National Deaf Football Team.
Winfred Chartey is believed to have connived with the General Secretary of the association, James Armah to send ‘hearing’ footballers to Australia to compete in a tournament exclusively meant for the deaf.
They allegedly collected monies from the said players before enplaning to Australia.
The team lost 3-8 to the Australians, the cheating not withstanding.
DSP Francis Baah of the CID in an interview with Joy News said his outfit is making frantic efforts to get Mr. Chartey back to the station.
He was arrested but released on bail when the incident broke and Baah has since been on the run.
“He is no more sleeping in his house. He has changed his phone number and then he has been coaching some people, ...we have gone to all the coaching fields, but he did not show up,” he said.
A staff of the Sports Council who bailed Mr. Chartey has thus been arrested to help the police to find the whereabouts of the head coach.
