After losing out of the league title, Asante Kotoko on Sunday saw another opportunity to claim a trophy slip by, this time in the SWAG Cup match.
Kotoko after leading the double header 1-0 from the first leg in Accra were stunned at their favourite grounds, the Baba Yara Stadium where Heart of Lions roared to a 2-0 success in 90 minutes.
Lions scored in each half with Mohammed Tanko handing them the lead in 39 minutes before substitute Bright Nsiah to sealed the day with a fine goal two minutes from time.
And for Lions coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin, a former junior team coach of Asante Kotoko, the SWAG success becomes his first domestic silverware in the top flight.
The game which has come to be known as the ‘SWAG Match’ is an annual event on the domestic football calendar and is played in celebration of the contributions made by the sporting media.
