A Ghanaian student, Denis Korbla Penuamego, says all discussions should be centred on the Millennium Development Goals.
He said the achievement of the MDGs should be a concern of every young person in the world since the problems facing the world are universal.
Mr. Penuamego was speaking in an interview with the United Nations radio in Geneva. He is attending the Model UN Conference there.
The conference, which is currently underway, is on the theme: “The Millennium Development Goals, Lifting the Bottom Billion out of Poverty.” The Ghanaian student, Dennis Korbla will serve as Secretary of the Committee on Economic and Financial Matters.
A student of the University of Cape Coast, Denis said, “As students, we are always in need of an improvement in our lives. Everything that we discuss is linked to the Millennium Development Goals. You can always find trace of them in the discussions that we have in school, whether in classrooms, whether on the level of student union government or student assemblies, they are all there. You can see them.”
Mr. Kiyo Akasaka, the UN under-secretary General for Communications said the model UN will provide the students “with better understanding about how the UN works and what are the problems we have got. And they will try to make the United Nations better for a safer and nicer world.”
