Businessman remanded over fake dollar notes

A businessman who was nabbed by the police for possessing 217 bundles of 100 dollar notes at his residence in Kisseman in Accra was on Monday put before an Accra Circuit Court charged with possessing forged currency notes. Richard Kumah has also been charged with possessing paper intended to resemble and pass as what is used for making bank notes. The court did not take his plea and remanded him into police custody to reappear on August 17. Superintendent of Police Acigehab Boye told the court presided over by Mr C.A. Wilson that the case was still under investigation and prayed that the accused be remanded. The police said they had information last Friday that there was a house in Kisseman owned by Kumah where he and his friends usually printed both local and foreign currencies for nefarious activities. Based on that information the police searched the house on Saturday and found a trunk with two padlocks. When it was opened it contained 217 bundles in 100 United States-dollar notes. When Kumah was quizzed by the police he said the trunk belonged to one Alhaji Djide, now deceased. The prosecution said efforts were being made to apprehend his accomplices. Source: GNA
