Ex-Minister barred from travelling, again

Stephen Asamoah Boateng, former Information Minister, was once again prevented physically from travelling outside the country by operatives of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on Monday. He was travelling in the company of his family; his wife and two children; and the family had boarded a London-bound British Airways flight when they were asked to disembark by a lady – Josephine – who claimed she had been instructed by an “order from above”. According to Asamoah Boateng who spoke to Joy FM, the flight crew was prepared to fly with the family but were stopped from doing so, and warned that the plane would be grounded as long as the ex-minister remained on board. After some delay and upon insistence of the BNI the family had to disembark. “Indeed they physically prevented us, molested us, pushed us and shoved us," he told Joy FM. "The kids were being trampled upon; my wife was being pushed around.” This is the second time the former minister has been prevented from travelling in two months. He was first refused travelling on June 14. Mr Asamoah Boateng said he protested the latest action because the family already had a case involving the BNI pending before the court, insisting that without court orders or an arrest warrant, he would not succumb to their demand.
