The Apenteng family has marked the one-week celebration of the death of their brother, Kwame Kyei Apenteng-Mensah, who was gruesomely murdered on Saturday July 25, 2009, with a call on the police to expedite investigations that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.
The deceased, who was the MD of Summit Industries, producers of “Le Country Mineral Water”, would be laid to rest on August 29, 2009 in his hometown, Adukrom-Akuapim in the Eastern Region.
The elder brother of the deceased, Samuel Kwasi Apenteng, told DAILY GUIDE that the family since the death of their kin has been restive and insecure.
He said until the perpetrators of the heinous crime were found, their lives remained in danger since they did not know what could have led to the murder.
The youngest of the deceased’s siblings, Jones Apenteng, described him as a very lively and sociable person who could come down to his level as though they were age mates.
He relished how the deceased received him and his friends, as well as the early morning tea they always had together.
The deceased, who was also the former MD of Panbros Salt Limited, was found dead in his room lying sideways with a stab in his neck on the morning of Saturday July 25.
His house help was reported to have heard him screamed at about 12am on that fateful day. His inability to rise as early as he did alarmed the house help who informed the family to check on him.
After fruitless attempts to open his door, the family resorted to the use of a ladder which, they climbed into the room through the window.
Alas, they found their brother in a pool of blood with a stab in his neck.
A source close to the family had told DAILY GUIDE that Kwame Kyei arrived home at about 10:30pm on Friday and ordered the house help not to close that gate since he was expecting a visitor later that night.
Kwame Kyei Apenteng-Mensah was the third born of twenty-two children. He was 65 and left behind five children.
Several high profile persons and family members attended the one-week celebration.
Notable among them were the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu, who is said to be a long time friend of the Apentengs, Jerry Asare, the former director of operations of Kumasi Asanti Kotoko and MD of Radix Technology, Stephen Asare of Vacuum Salt Ltd, Jones Apenteng, MD of Mijones Company Ltd and Stella W. Apenteng.
