The paramount chief of Ahanta traditional area has said they plan to immortalise the decapitated head of their late chief when returned to them.
Nana Bonsu XV a direct relative of the decapitated chief said, the head is currently with the government for safe keeping and it will be there for a while till they are ready to immortalise it.
Nana Bonsu II had his head decapitated by the Dutch and was kept in their custody for 171 years until it was recently returned to the country.
In an interview with Citi News, Nana Bonsu XV admitted not seeing the decapitated head; “I have not seen the head itself but I have seen the picture and it looks just like me and the resemblance is unbelievably striking.”
He added that “When the head is brought to us, we are going to preserve it for our children and future generations to come and see it. 171 years and it has been brought to us so we have to preserve it.”
He was excited the head has been finally brought back to them. He thanked the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture and the Dutch government for making it possible.
