Mali go for Alain Giresse for second coaching spell

Mali have appointed Frenchman Alain Giresse as the new head coach of the Eagles for a second spell.

The former France midfielder beat two other ex-coaches of the Eagles, Patrice Carteron and Stephen Keshi, to the post.

Until recently the coach of Senegal, the 62-year-old succeeds Polish coach Henry Kasperczak, whose contract was not renewed after guiding the Eagles to a first-round exit at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Giresse led Mali to third place at the 2012 Nations Cup during his first stint in charge of the team.

His first order of business would be to prepare Mali for the qualifying campaign for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations which begins in June.
