Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club was crowned champions of the 2008/9 Glo Premier League at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra on Sunday. This was at a well attended and special ceremony planned by the Premier League Board (PLB) to crown the winners of the premiership. Hearts’ captain Hassan Mohammed was presented with the League trophy by acting Minister of Youth and Sports, Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo ably supported by Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as well as Welbeck Yaw Abra-Appiah, Chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB) and Worlanyo Agrah, acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council. Players and officials of Hearts were also presented with a medal each and a cash prize of GHc10,000. A coronation match between Hearts and local rivals Great Olympics however ended in a deadlock. The match which was played over 60 minutes failed to meet fans’ expectations, with the two sides creating some few scoring chances. Source: GNA
