Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, on Friday donated GHc 3,200 to the Retired National Footballers Association of Ghana (RENFAG).
The donation is to help the Association to establish a secretariat, develop training programmes for young footballers and promote the welfare of the members.
Wing Commander (RTD) Samuel Allotey, Head of Human Resources of Stanbic Bank who made the donation, said the gesture is also meant to help the Association to meet some of their challenges such as age, health and other social problems.
He said that even though members of RENFAG were great players of their time, they were unfortunate not to benefit from the huge transfer fees, winning bonus and other incentives modern players are earning hence the need to grant them support.
Wing Commander Allotey said the Bank was interested in the development of soccer in the country and therefore sees the Association as one of the steps towards their goal.
The Head of Human Resource urged both retired and present footballers to take advantage of the numerous investment schemes of the Bank as part of their preparations for the future.
Wing Commander Allotey, however, called on other corporate bodies to come to the aid of the Association since their members have contributed immensely to the development of soccer in the country.
Willie Klutse, Public Relations Officer of RENFAG, who received the donation on behalf of the Association and expressed appreciation to the Bank for assisting them, adding that “the money will go a long way to save a lot of lives”.
Klutse who was a member of the Black Stars regretted that most of their members are living in deplorable conditions and at the verge of death because they have been abandoned by the nation.
He mentioned Edward Aqcuah, also a former member of the national team, as being at the verge of losing his sight and therefore part of the money will be used to cater for his eye operation.
The PRO added that other members will also have their medical bills settled.
Ibrahim Sunday, acting President of the Association also appealed to other corporate bodies to support members of RENFAG during their difficult moments.
