Agona Swedru Divisional Command of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOWSU) of the Ghana Police Service, has arrested a 36-year old pastor of the African Faith Tabernacle Church at Gomoa Dominase, for causing emotional abuse and psychological trauma to his wedded wife.
Pastor Bright Hackman, in charge of the Gomoa Dominase branch of the church, was alleged to have impregnated the wife of a church member, and abandoned his own wife, Mrs Abena Ackom, 41.
Police Chief Inspector Philip Arthur, Head of the Swedru Divisional Command of (DOVUSU), who made this known to the press at Agona Swedru, said Pastor Hackman had married his wife for four years, and they have no children.
Chief Inspector Arthur said, before the marriage, Pastor Hackman told the wife that he had no child, and wanted to have an issue with her after marriage but that never happened.
The DOVVSU Head said, when the dream of Pastor Hackman to have children became shattered, the man of God decided to look for another woman, and she happened to be his church member’s wife.
According to Chief Inspector Arthur, this infuriated the wedded wife who confronted her husband over infidelity.
Chief Inspector Arthur said, Pastor Hackman got annoyed and refused to exercise his responsibilities as husband because of the new girlfriend.
Chief Inspector Arthur said, the wife protesting against her husband’s behaviour, lodged a complaint with the Head Office of the Africa Faith Tabernacle Church at Ayinam in the Eastern Region.
According to the DOVVSU Head, the General Head of the Church, Prophet David Nkansah, told Pastor Hacman that the church does not practise polygamy, and as a result, he decided to divorce his wedded wife.
Chief Inspector Arthur said, sometime last year, Mr Yaw Tawiah, a member of the church had a misunderstanding with his wife, and asked Pastor Hackman to settle.
According to the DOVVSU Head, the settlement ended up with Pastor Hackman impregnating Mr Tawiah's wife, and refused to discontinue the relationship with the lady.
Chief Inspector Arthur alleged that Pastor Hackman managed to smuggle the lady to Ketu krom, a village near Assin Fosu, and because of the new lady, had stopped taking care of the wife for over one year now.
The DOVVSU Head said since Pastor Hackman's behaviour constitutes domestic violence, he will be arranged before court when investigations are completed.
