A Kumasi Circuit Court has convicted the Chief Executive Officer of Citizen FM Station in Kumasi, Rabbi Yaw Osei-Wusu, to a fine of ¢12 million or in default 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for operating the radio station without a license.
Anthony Kusi, the second accused person who is the General Manager of the station, was however granted a ¢40 million bail with one surety to re-appear on April 24.
Whilst Osei-Wusu pleaded guilty to the charge, Kusi pleaded not guilty.
Police Chief Inspector Owusu Manu told the court presided over by Mr Bright Mensah that Osei-Wusu, who had not obtained a license to operate the radio station, started operating it on November 12, last year and employed Kusi as the General Manager.
The prosecution said some weeks after their operations, the National Communication Authority found that the station had not obtained license to operate.
Chief Inspector Manu said a report was made to the police and the two were arrested and the equipment at the station seized.
