The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has assured of the government's commitment to paying debts owed to road contractors in the country.
He said that although the previous administration left behind huge debts in the road sector alone, the government would work hard to complete the construction work of all abandoned road projects in the country.
“President John Dramani Mahama is committed to paying road contractors for them to resume work”, the sector minister told the media after he inspected the state of some abandoned road projects in the Sunyani and Sunyani West municipalities.
He was accompanied by Mr Dickson Kyere Duah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum West; Madam Millicent Amankwaa Yeboah, the MP for Sunyani West and Mr Seid Mubarak the MP for Sunyani East constituencies.
Others included Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister and some urban road engineers.
“We have had fruitful discussions with some of the road contractors and we are expecting them to mobilise and move to site immediately,” Mr Agbodza stated.
The sector minister said he was worried about the condition of some of the abandoned road projects in the Sunyani and Sunyani West Municipalities, including the Sunyani outer ring road (Alaska road).
He explained that the execution of the outer ring road project was initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and asked the contractors working on the project mobilise to resume work within three days.
“We are seriously working to pay committed and devoted road contractors who are still working, despite the financial challenges,” Mr Agbodza assured.
