Ghanaian investor, Dr. Kofi Amoah has exhorted the youth in Ghana to stop bickering and complaining about governments as there are no perfect governments anywhere on the planet. Instead, he said they should take their destiny into their own hands believing that they can make it even within the constrained environment in the country. “Follow your dreams, don’t allow inefficiencies in our public institutions to stop you,” he told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah. Dr. Amoah, owner of Citizen Kofi, an ultra modern entertainment centre in Accra, said while the government could do more to create a congenial environment for business to thrive, in the interim, individuals cannot afford to throw their hands in despair. This is because “there is a resurgence of confidence and a can-do attitude in Africa and Ghana” which young people must take advantage of. “We need to stay focused, think positive for development is a psychological issue. We were not born to suffer,” he emphasised. Contributing to the discussion which centred on the development challenges facing the country, the President of AGI, Tony Oteng Gyasi said the non implementation of law and order was setting the country’s development clock backwards. Touching on the flooding that hits the country in the wake of rains, Mr Gyasi asked why the Town and Country Planning department and allied agencies did not implement laws that prohibit people from siting structures in unapproved areas. According to him, if such agencies took their job seriously, energy and time that was wasted discussing floods, decongestion and demolition of unauthorised structures could have been channeled into productive ventures. The AGI president said the country could also mobilise resources if people who violate the country’s planning laws were prosecuted. Investment Banker, Yoofi Grant bemoaned the disconnect between the country’s educational system and industry needs. He stressed the need for Ghana’s educational curricular to be streamlined to have a bearing on industry. Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com
