President John Mahama has announced the promotion of the incoming Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a statement signed by the Minister of State of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, it said the promotions, effective March 24, 2025, come upon the advice of the Armed Forces Council (GAF).
The statement said the promotion is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition as the outgoing administration of the GAF hands over command.

The newly promoted officers include Major General William Agyapong – Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu – Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing – Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong – Chief of Air Staff and Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai – Chief of Staff.
President Mahama, who appointed the new chiefs in consultation with the Council of State, extended his best wishes to them for a successful tenure.
He urged them to work with unity, diligence, and patriotic courage to uphold Ghana’s security and protect the nation.
