Ghana’s Black Stars turned on the style with a five star performance, beating Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.
Otto Addo’s men knew victory would send them top of Group I in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and were off the blocks in just 90 seconds, when Antoine Semenyo struck for the opener.
The Black Stars continued to dominate and went close to doubling their lead, through Kudus Mohammed and later captain Jordan Ayew, but both efforts were unsuccessful.
A nicely worked corner routine created a shooting chance for Kudus, whose shot was blocked, only for the rebound to be dinked back into the box belt Kingsley Schindler for a waiting Inaki Williams, whose shot nodded home for the second.
The goal was Inaki’s first for Ghana in 16 months.
The Black Stars won a penalty a few minutes later, and Jordan Ayew was on hand to score the team’s third and his 30th in National colors.
Ghana went close for a fourth on the stroke of halftime through Ernest Nuamah, but his near post effort was saved by the very busy Chad stopper, Jourdain Mbaynaissem.
Ghana found the fourth, eight minutes into the second half when Mohammed Salisu headed in a Nuamah corner kick from close range.
The cheers grew louder as the Black Stars shifted another gear in search of another goal, and that came after Nuamah rounded off a lovely team goal, with a fine strike into the bottom corner.
The win sends Ghana top of Group I, ahead of Monday’s top of the table clash against Madagascar in Morocco.
